How much should you tip?
In the United States, 15–20% of the pre-tax bill is customary for sit-down restaurant service, with 20% or more for excellent service. Hair and nail salons are usually tipped 15–20%, food delivery 10–20% (at least a few dollars), and bartenders about $1–2 per drink or 15–20% of the tab.
How to calculate a tip
Multiply the bill by the tip percentage: $60 × 18% = $10.80. A quick mental trick for 20%: move the decimal one place left and double it ($6.00 × 2 = $12.00).
